From Scalpel to Syringe: Why I Love Watching Medics Learn Botox at My Birmingham Clinic
I’ve been in aesthetics for over 22 years. And honestly? The best part of my week isn't always the treatments I perform myself. It's watching a nurse or a dentist pick up a syringe for the first time in my training room in Birmingham.
There's a moment when it clicks. The anatomy they learned from textbooks suddenly makes sense on a real, live face. The nerves settle. Precision takes over. And I think to myself, "Yep, they've got it."
If you're a medic—a nurse, a dentist, a doctor, or a pharmacist—and you're thinking about taking that first step into aesthetic injectables, this blog is for you. Forget the flashy marketing promises of “getting rich overnight” in aesthetics. At Dermaskills Academy, we teach you how to be safe, confident, and clinically excellent. Everything else follows.
Who Is This Foundation Botox Course For?
Let’s be very clear from the start. This is a medical grade course, for medical professionals.
At Dermaskills Academy, we believe injectables are medicine. So our Foundation Botox training is tailored specifically for registered professionals with a current license from the GMC, NMC, GDC, or GPhC.
We don’t accept beauty therapists on our injectables courses. Why? Because injecting someone's face comes with real risks vascular occlusion, asymmetry, ptosis (that’s a droopy eyelid, for those not yet in the know). You need a solid grasp of anatomy and pharmacology before you even touch a needle. If you’re a medic, you already have that foundation. We just build the aesthetic house on top of it.
What You’ll Actually Learn on the Day
Our Foundation Botox course is a 2day, CPDaccredited, handson training course delivered at my real, CQCregulated clinic, Rejuven8 Training, in Birmingham.
Day 1 – Theory & Science:
We don't rush this. Everyone learns differently, so we spend a full day on the "why" before we ever get to the "how."
Facial Anatomy in 3D: We don't just point at a diagram. We go through the musculature of the upper face the glabella, the frontalis, the orbicularis oculi—in extreme detail. Spoiler: the danger zones are a very big deal.
Pharmacology & Reconstitution: Learn the difference between the different botulinum toxin brands, how to mix your product correctly, and why dose precision is everything.
Patient Consultation & Consent: How to spot a good candidate (and how to politely say no to a bad one).
Day 2 – Practical, HandsOn Experience:
This is why students travel from across the UK to train with me.
You'll watch me perform procedures in a clinical livepatient setting. Then, under my direct supervision, you will practice foundation treatment areas including treating glabellar lines (the '11s'), horizontal forehead lines, and crow’s feet on real patients, with small group sizes of a maximum of just 46 delegates for the session.
You leave my training room having performed the treatments yourself, not just watched them in a hotel conference room.
Why Train with Saima Rehman Ahmed?
Right, let’s talk about credibility. I know the people searching for courses want to know: “Is Saima legit?”
Here’s my background, not for a medal, but so you and Google’s EEAT algorithm (that’s Experience, Expertise, Authority, and Trustworthiness) know exactly who you’re learning from.
Experience: I have been performing aesthetic treatments since 2002. That’s over two decades of keeping patients safe and happy.
Expertise: I don’t just teach it; I live it. I run a fulltime, busy, and successful CQCregulated clinic called Rejuven8 Skin Clinic in Birmingham.
Authority: I am the Registered Manager and Nominated Individual for Rejuven8 Skin Clinic. This means I am legally responsible for all clinical governance, patient safety, and regulatory compliance. That’s not a title I take lightly.
Trustworthiness: Every course at Dermaskills Academy is fully CPD accredited. On completion, you receive a formal certificate that qualifies you to apply for professional indemnity insurance.

The Questions I Get Asked Most Often
Let me answer a few of the queries that come up again and again in my DMs and emails.
“I'm a bit nervous about injecting for the first time. Is that okay?”
Saima says: Absolutely. I'd be worried if you weren't nervous. Aesthetics is a massive responsibility. My team and I are incredibly patient. We’ll run through the anatomy on a mannequin, then on a live patient with my hand literally hovering behind yours if you need it. I don't let anyone leave this clinic until they are competent and confident.
“I saw an 'Advanced Botox Course' on your site. Do I need that?”
Saima says: Not as a complete beginner. Our Foundation course teaches you the core, essential antiwrinkle treatments. You must master foundation techniques safely before learning advanced techniques like the Nefertiti Lift or treating the masseter muscles.
“Do you offer postcourse support?”
Saima says: 100%. My students become part of the Dermaskills network. You’ll get followup calls, help with your insurance application, and I’m always just an email away if you run into a clinical question.
